FireCCILT10: New BETA long-term burned area dataset released

The new Fire_cci AVHRR-LTDR grid burned area product v1.0 (FireCCILT10) has been released. This product is based on the AVHRR-LTDR v.5 dataset, has a time coverage of 1982-2017, and is provided in monthly 0.25-degree files.

FireCCILT10 is the global BA product with the longest available time series, and is provided as a beta version, with further algorithm refinement to be done in the near future. It can be donwloaded from here.

Historical background and current developments for mapping burned area from satellite Earth observation

A new article has been published in Remote Sensing of Environment, reviewing burned area trends in the past 40 years, and commenting the main burned area products in existence.

New Article in RSE describing the Small Fire Database

A new article has been published online in Remote Sensing of Environment (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0034425718305649): Development of a Sentinel-2 burned area algorithm: Generation of a small fire database for sub-Saharan Africa.

Updated fuel load and consumption database

The updated fuel load and fuel consumption database developed during the Fire_cci project (based on the Leeuwen et al., 2014) is based on the shortcomings found when applying it to 500 meters spatial resolution instead of 0.25 degrees. The coordinates are corrected in order to follow the actual land cover changes and the studies have been revised in order to confirm or correct the quantities. The updated version is more accurate spatially and temporarily.
